Portland Facility

ATI Portland Forge's twenty-six production units (upsetters and hammers) provide flexibility to produce metallurgically sound forgings on-time for specific customer needs. An on-site certified heat treating facility provides normalizing, tempering, quenching, and annealing capabilities for post-forging treatment to meet strength, hardness, and machinability specifications. Other available services are: part cleaning processes, metallurgical testing and certification, rust prevention coating, magnetic particle inspection, hardness testing, coining, straightening, and part number serialization.

The ATI Portland Forge physical plant is enhanced by people. People, who by their actions on the production floor, or in support activities, supply customer-focused service.

Controlled heating and cooling of parts improves the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the forging. Heat treatment is used for hardness control, stress relieving, grain refinement, part distortion control and improved machinability. When the design calls for heat treatment, ATI Portland Forge has the equipment and the experienced production and metallurgical staff to provide this vital service. For a complete listing of the services, equipment and materials processed at ATI Portland Forge refer to the capabilties chart.

Hammers: Ratings on these power and drop hammers range from 3,000 to 10,000 pounds. With excellent flexibility they can produce an almost limitless variety of shapes.

Upsetters: These horizontal forging machines range in size from 3" to 8" and can form configurations up to 10" in diameter. They are typically used in production of gears, pinions, and shafts.

Size Capabilities: ATI Portland Forge is equipped for long and short production runs of forgings weighing from 1 pound to over 200 pounds, using more than 150 different carbon and alloy steel grades.
